  • 860 freeze plug
  • I posted awhile back about my 860 freeze plug leaking coolant.....finally got around to pulling it out. I had to loosen the starter to get at it(it was the rear plug). I though I had replaced both plugs when I tore down the tractor 10 or 12 years ago, but I guess it was just a hosing out from the temp gauge port to the water pump opening. I just remember getting lots of sand out of there. Here's pics of the plug & hole....

Sorry for the giant pics, I forgot to size them down. I installed one of those rubber expansion plugs back in the hole. Anyone have experience with these? It was a quick fix, but I'm guessing if one plug rotted out, the other will follow. Replacing both with new brass plugs will be added to the list of small winter projects.

    The new expansion plug.....

Oh! I also got a chance to wash off last years mud!

  • I bought my 860 sixteen years ago. Had to replace one "freeze" plug, probably 12 years ago or longer. No other problem since.
