  • thermostat not closing
  • You hear a lot about thermostats not opening and the tractor over heating. I have just the opposite. I've had the 3000 for a little over a year. Never seemed to warm up all the way. In winter not much at all. Yesterday a bought a laser thermometer and checked my coolant temp. First I opened the radiator cap and started tractor. The outside temp was around 80. First thing I noted was the coolant in radiator was moving even though I'd just started the tractor. I figured that was not right. After 15 minutes of idling it only warmed to 105. I thought maybe that there was no thermostat in it. I drained it and found out it had one. It appeared to be shut. Thought that was odd. I put it in a pot of water on the stove. It warmed to 165 and opened. However then when it cooled I noticed it did not shut all the way. This is a good example how a thermostat can fail either way. New one going in tomorrow.
