  • Marvel-Schebler carb
  • I have a Marvel - Schebler tsx 241-B that has the normal drain plug on the bowl, but instead of the normal screen in the middle of the bowl it has another plug (maybe 3/8). Has anybody seen one like this, first time for me.

  • M/S added a small brass drain plug in addition to the standard 1/8 NPT plug at some time in 1948. Some put, and I've seen 'new' kits with the petcock for a drain plug and several 'farmerized' versions. Guys booger up the 7/16 hex plug removing it and end up using something else, often not knowing it is a pipe plug, not a UN thread.

    RESTORED/REBUILT M/S TSX-241B CARB:

  • It very well good be, but it shouldn’t hurt to use it that way (without the original drain) should it?

  • Yes, agree with JMOR -if it ain't broke...worry about fixing it next time you do a rebuild.

  • As long as all is well, it shouldn't matter, but.....if you leave gas valve ON and if needle and seat fail to do full shut off, then you could end up with a crankcase full of gas and if started & run that way, a ruined engine.
