  • 'N' OHV CONVERSION KIT
  • I recall someone made an overhead valve conversion for the 9N, 2N, 8N engine. These engines were modified and used to power midget racers at one time. The Museum of American Speed has at least one other 9N, 2N or 8N conversion in their collection. Does anyone remember who made the original conversions and has any information on the conversion kit? Obviously it was an aftermarket company -FoMoCo never made one.

  • A friend of mine had a Crager OHV conversion on a model A engine, He had it in a dragster He built in the 50's. It would run 108mph in the 1/4 mi.

  • That's FASCINATING, Tim!

It appears to be a side-mount block with the bellhousing cut down. ...No provision for a starter. ....Fuel pump boss, so Industrial block?

What puzzles me (among many of life's mysteries) is the oil pan. ...Dry sump? ....What is that bulge at the front of the sump?

I sure would like to learn more about this engine and conversion. ....Where did you find those pics?

  • Ardun also made OHV conversions for the Ford Model A engine.

FWIW: Ardun was a 1940s vintage company founded by Zora Arkus-Duntov, later of Chevrolet performance renown.

Anyone know what a Duntov 3030 was?

  • I believe the Duntov 3030 was a high-performance cam profile designed by Zora.

  • Re: 'N' OHV CONVERSION KIT
  • Bingo.

The Duntov 3030 was a Chevrolet SHP camshaft for the small block Chevrolet. It was used only in some SHP Corvette engines, e.g., 327/375,, 327/365, etc. It acquired the 3030 moniker from the .030/.030 intake/exhaust valve lash.

I'm sure that Duntov did not design it but he was Chief Engineer for the Corvette at the time and so reaped the glory.
