  • High oil pressure
  • Does anyone know what would cause a engine to go from normal oil pressure to peg the gauge out (50lbs) and cause the engine to smoke. Some one said oil pump, wouldn’t failure in pump cause low or no pressure? It’s a 48 8n.

  • The only explanation I can come up with for the sudden high pressure reading would be a stuck relief valve. No clue why that would cause the engine to smoke. You sure the gauge has not gone out to lunch?

  • I have to ask, did you remember to drain the oil last time you changed it? Silly question, except my old boss did that with his truck and ended up with way too much oil in the engine. He said it pegged the oil pressure gauge, smoked like a train, and spewed oil out everywhere. He shut it off, drained and filled with the correct amount, and apparently didn't do any permanent damage. I would have bet that much oil would hydraulically lock and break something, but maybe he was two quarts low when he started the oil change.
