  • Choke
  • My 53 NAA will only run with choke pulled about 1/2 way. It has new gas tank, carb, fuel bowl, and cleaned gas lines. Any suggestions?

  • My first thought is check for intake manifold leak. Spray wd40 or carb cleaner around joints and gaskets while running and see if idle changes. I am guessing you tried adjusting carb richness?? Choke won't help slow gas flow so your lines and tank seem to be fine. Good luck, I have run things with choke on many times trying to find a leak. Usually is an adjustment.

  • HiYa Ron-
Did you replace all those parts all at once and was it like this before you did? Did you rebuild the OEM M/S carb or just buy an aftermarket unit? Never assume any new/aftermarket part is set to specs out of the box, they seldom are as China as no QC Department. Do you have the OEM Owner/Operators' Manual? There is some info in it on how to adjust the governor. The CLYMER/I&T FO-19 Manual also has good chapters on the carb, fuel system, and governor. The only gaskets on the M/S Carb are the two paper ones -one between the manifold and carb flange when mounted and the other between the two carb halves. The throttle shaft and choke shaft each have a rubber plug/seat and a felt packing dust washer -neither is designed to be air tight. Do you still have your OEM Marvel-Schebler carb? If so, I can rebuild it if you desire -my email is open.

  • When my jub was doing that it was the gaskets on the throttle shaft sucking/leaking air. These little gasket/seals do not come in all carb kits. I never thought they were that important but they are. Also if bowl gasket is leaking air you’ll get same effect.
