  • Once again I must appeal to the collective wisdom. It runs good up to 3/4 throttle then misses. It's a '49 with front mounted distributor. I have cleaned carb. New points, condenser, 12v coil, plugs and wires, advance weights. Interestingly,it timies 180 degrees opposite of manual(ie, the condenser is on right insead other left when setting timing. Any ideas ?

  • HiYa Lee-
Unsure what you mean about "times 180 opposite of manual". There's only one correct way to set the timing on the front mount and if it is bolted in 180 off, it will bust the aluminum base as shown in picture. Timing is set according to manuals -or by a timing gage -see pictures. Condenser mounts as shown with unit so guts are exposed, clamped on LH and wire thru on the right. Just to be sure, is it wired correctly? OEM Ballast Resistor in place, no gen or VR; 12V bat, alt, and coil; NO external resistor? Do you have a copy of WIRING PICTOGRAMS by JMOR? If not go to our HOW-TO's to download a copy.
