  • And Two months Later...
  • Wow!
I hadn`t realized it has been so long since I asked for help from our Gurus here, I posted 5/09 with my "Shifty th`50" having a problem with firing correctly after getting warmed up to operating temps...
    Thank you again Guys!!!
Working it to clear a lot for a lady, it acted up AND I finally got fed up to take time to investigate a little further yesterday and found the plug wires have corroded into the distributor cap...
I`m correcting that issue with new parts...
BUT I also see motor oil on top of the head, and dunno where it`s coming from rather than knowing itWAS in the crankcase,

  • No oil in the head on Ford tractor flathead engine, so look for external source.

  • Yes JMOR, I Know there`s no oil in the head, and thought it STRANGE that it is on top of the head like that...
The indents for the spark plugs were full of oil on #3&4 I looked to see IF I could find where it`s coming from and the oil leak at the governor is the closest spot...
And I know it`s NOT steering oil I just serviced it and it`s clean ;)
I don`t see it blowing back & UP without covering everything else???
    I`ll find it,
    Dennis
    Thank you for your reply

  • Bought a distributor cap from NAPA, but I gotta get points too, the contacts are really thin and ain`t been changed since I got it...
I`ll hafta go to the registry to see when "Shifty" came home with me,

  • No date when I bought her but I did register her

1950 8N 8N330291 Poor Tractor!!! It has been abused. It is in good hands now and will be put to work on our farm/ministry property. Cresent Moon Ministries, Sumter Co. GA John Barry

I bought it for parts for my 49er but it runs too good to break it apart,
