  • Carb Needle
  • I've recently cleaned a Zenith carb off of a 9N. After making it clean as a whistle, the needle still hangs up. The float moves down out of the way with the needle sticking, sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes more. And not every time of course. Any advice is welcome. I'll probably plan to buy a rebuild kit some place if nothing else.

  • It may just be sticking because it's dry. Lots of the replacement needles have a place to attach a clip so the float can pull it out. Apparently it must be enough of a problem somebody thought the clips were necessary. I usually don't bother with the clip since the incoming fuel should be enough to push the valve out of there. It is possible with a gravity flow system the fuel pressure might not be enough to unseat the valve. I still have a hard time believing that. Seems like vibration from the engine would be enough to shake it loose with any fuel at all pushing on it. I'd try it on the tractor and see if there is actually a problem before trying to fix it.
