  • can anyone give me an idea of about what serial number they switched from double rib fenders to single? Thanks

  • Before serial number 31798 in 1940 and that would be the ones with less rivets. That change was made in '39 before 9500 or so.

    "The double ribbed 9N rear fenders (left) went through at least 2 reductions in the number of rivets that held them together before the fenders were replaced by the single rib model (right) that was used on the N tractors for the next dozen years." No date was provided. The reference to (left) and (right) above are pictures in the quote.

  • The info comes from John Smith's now archived Tractor ID/History page -see LINK. He says the change came sometime in 1940, s/n 9N-10276 - 9N-146017. I have the date won somewhere but Jason Grooms would know for sure. 1940 saw a lot of new changes, s/n 12500 was the start. Smooth hubs, snap-in cover; grille, new 10 x 28 hat rims, dipstick moved to name a few.
