  • Carb cleanout
  • I have read and followed the procedures listed here and elsewhere for carburetor clean out. After removing all jets I soaked the castings first with carb cleaner, then with degreaser and rinsed in very hot water. Finally I blew out all passages with compressed air.

To be absolutely sure I am supposed to run wire down the tiny passages and that's where I'm stuck: I can run a straightened paper clip down some of the straight passages but ones that end in the throat of the carb are impossible for me to snake a wire into. I have soft copper "bell" wire but that won't make the turn.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

  • I use my old guitar stings. I cut sections about 12" long. Don't like things like paper clips, coat hangers, or bailing wire -things that can break off easily. If you want I can send you some. I just replaced my acoustic guitar with a set of new ones.

  • Thru plug shown is how they got to idle passages to drill them. There is a smaller restriction about 1/8: into the hole.

  • Thank you JMOR; I had your diagram as a reference. I just couldn't figure out how to make sure those three holes in the throat were clear. I have PM'd Mr. Daley about guitar strings. If all else fails I will give another shot of carb cleaner followed by compressed air and see that all three holes spew.
