  • Engine will not stop running
  • My 8N engine will not stop running even when I turn the ignition switch off. I have replaced the ignition switch and starter button. I have to turn the gas off and then the engine will stop when the gas is gone.

  • Classic symptom of a Delco 10SI 3 wire alternator with no isolation in the line from ignition switch to #1 pin in the edge plug.

No isolation allows feedback from alternator back to ignition coil and the engine continues to run.

Common isolation options are to add a diode, indicator lamp, or resistor in the line.

  • Igintion wiring is wrong. Somehow, you have bypassed your switch. With the key off, try to start your tractor. If it won't start, loosen the belt so that the generator won't turn, start the tractor and then see if the key will turn it off.
Either way, your wiring is not correct. You need to trace it out.
