  • For safety reasons, I'd like to remove the PTO on my old Ford 8N. I bought a cover for it, but my POT shaft sticks out too far for the cover to be attached. Can I just remove the entire shaft without it affecting how the tractor shifts or runs?

  • On the 8N the PTO shaft can be removed but since it also turns the hydraulic pump, the 3-point lift will not operate. Sounds like the original 1-1/8" PTO has been replaced by the newer standard size 1-3/8", which is longer. You will need a new longer aftermarket cap as shown in the link that Tim posted.

  • It's your tractor and you can do whatever you want with it, but, I wouldn't remove the PTO shaft entirely. If you have a newer PTO shaft, it is tad longer than the OEM 1-1/8" one and may not screw all the way on the OEM PTO Cap/Cover. See the LINK for a cap that should fit.

    PTO CAPS

NOTE: The 9N-726 cap is cast iron; the 2N-726 cap is stamped steel and used thru the NAA. Both have identical Thread Size of 2-5/8"-12 UN 2A.

  • Steiner tractor parts sells a long pto cover that should work.
