  • Manifold
  • I had a leaky manifold gasket on my 8n. When I took the manifold off to replace the gasket I noticed that the manifold was worn away where it was leaking by cylinder 4. Fortunately the block wasn't damaged so I got a new used manifold, and new gaskets. I put it back together and the leak is fixed, but there is still a ticking that I hear from around cylinder 4. Is it possible that I waited too long to fix this and the leak has created valve or other engine damage?

  • Dan,A used manifold could still be leaking causing the ticking sound.Get a 2 foot length of garden hose or the like. With the engine running hold one end to your ear and run the other end around the manifold #4 port and listen for the leak.It is possibility still leaking some.May have to use some sealer like red RTV if it is not eroded to bad.

  • Clicking Sound
  • Dan - The clicking sound could be an indication that a valve needs servicing; perhaps it's just out of adjustment, or maybe sticking.

  • I will follow this post as my 8N side distributor model has a very sharp mettalic clicking sound when running. Tractor starts and runs fine but this clicking has started in the last year. Annoying but does not seem to affect function. So, now I wonder about the manifold! Dave
