  • 8N hood and doglegs
  • Bought a nice hood and doglegs ( side panels ) from a 1951 8N that was unfortunately lost in a fire , luckily hood had been removed from the tractor and had been left outside prior to the fire. Can see the indentation s on side panels where it would have been drilled for headlights , my understanding is that headlights were dealer installed , how rare is it to find original panels , which they definitely are , that havenít been drilled ? Little surface rust and a few dings , but overall Iím thrilled with the condition !

  • Punchouts intact are not all 'rare'. Lighting kits were never installed on the N-Series Tractor on the Ford Rouge and Highland Park Assembly lines. Lighting kits were only available at a Ford Tractor dealer and sold as an optional accessory. Lights could be fastened at the dealer (at extra cost) or purchased outright and installed by the owner. Kits included 2 headlights; 1 Taillight; two fender brackets; Switch; All Hardware; and wiring to front and back, one side. The 8N-15500 Implement Lamp was released in 1949 and was not included in the kit, only sold separately. Early N's used the Left & Right "winged medallion" external mounting brackets, '39 thru '49. The mid-8N modified the lights to use a plain rounded cup mount eliminating costs by having a speared Left and Right bracket. Both headlights need a mounting backing plate to affix to. To install, use a punch to snap off the punchouts on steel doglegs. See your MPC.

  • Rare may have been the wrong choice of words , was just wondering how often you come across a tractor without headlights , if it is less frequent perhaps I would leave it that way , not going to be a work tractor , have an old 860 Ford that sees most of the dirty work
