OK, since I gave in and ordered a new starter button I decided just for the S and G factor I would take the old one apart to see what's in there. I wish I had taken pictures, it looks like there is (was) a 4 pronged contact that is under the top of the button that makes contact with the body of the assembly when you push it down, I could kinda see how every thing is electrically insulated to prevent contact till it's pushed down, so it's definitely not rebuildable.
