  • drain plug gasket
  • Hello all, I have a question on the drain plugs gaskets. I did a oil and hydraulic fluid change and put new cork gaskets in and the old ones didn't leak but now the new ones do. Should I have used sealer of some kind on them when I installed them and did I over tighten them? I didn't use a torque wrench when I tightened them, I just snugged them up good. Thanks all.

  • Did you remove all the old gasket material on the plug AND the pan surface? OWM plugs have a serrated surface for gripping. No sealant required. No torque wrench required. I always prep the new gasket with a coating of clean oil before applying it to the plug. Dab some oil on pan surface too.
