Difficulty Identifying My Tractor
Please excuse me as I am new to all this. I was given what I believe is an 8N, perhaps a 47 or 48 model, but the serial number quite clearly starts with a 9N. I suppose being 60 years old, appearances can be deceiving, but it looks like the tractor still has all its origional parts. I don't see a leading star but there is one at the end. What I read is 9N1347maybe3,7.

Your engine was probaly replaced. 9n and 2n engines are interchangeable. Jonas '46 2N(201373) '50 8N(337275)

Re: Difficulty Identifying My Tractor
So did Ford paint replacement engines for use on the 8N? Did they have a stock of leftover or refurbished 9N engines they used for repairs? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Re: Difficulty Identifying My Tractor
And its not a dumb question. These things can be pretty confusing at first.

Re: Difficulty Identifying My Tractor
Ford produced the 4-cylinder motor for commercial purposes but I think these would have had a different serial number. Ford always used up all of their stock of parts. The engines are the same on all the models and the production of blocks would have happened without pause for the change from 2n to 8n. If your 8n has a 9n engine in it then it would have come out of a 9n at some point. Jonas '46 2N(201373) '50 8N(337275)

Re: Difficulty Identifying My Tractor
So if the engine was replaced am I forced to just give it a ball part estimate? Looking at John Smith's site I have verified I have mid '48 - '52 radius rod, I have the '48 - '52 8N clutch linkage and I have the '47 - '49 8N steering box.
