  • Distributer and governor removal
  • I am cleaning up the engine block of my 9n and prepping it for paint. Are there any things I need to watch out for if I remove these two components (i.e. timing, etc.)? I can't locate any articles or instructions on removal of these components. Thanks

  • Dave, I have the same machine. Make sure the dist goes back correctly as previously mentioned, and if I remember correctly the bolts that hold the gov on or different lengths. Make sure they go back where they came out.

  • The distributor only goes on one way. The key on the distributor shaft lines up with the slot on the cam shaft. Put distributor on without coil and cap on it. Turn shaft by hand until you feel it seat into the shaft. then you can bolt down the distributor body and reassemble. If you put it on without properly seating the key you will break the distributor housing and you will need a new one. For the best responses to mechanical related questions post them in the section titles "nboard". This section is used mainly for historical reference and doesnt get as much traffic. Have fun.

  • The serial number on my engine is 9N95418 so when I registered on this registry it fit between a couple of 1942 9n's so I just assumed it was a 9. I really don't know much about this machine, year, model or else wise. I would imagine it has been painted several times judging from the red paint underneath. Thank you very much for information. This is my first tractor and its such a simple machine, I think it will be a lot of fun to work on and drive...a great winter project. Nice looking tractor, thanks for the picture.

  • Heres a link that gives a lot of information about these tractors. There are also a couple books that I think are the best for anyone doing a restoration. Usually at least one of these is in stock at a borders or barnes and noble store.

"Ford N Series Tractors Originality Guide" Peterson and Beemer

    "Vintage Ford Tractors" Pripps

    "Ford Farm Tractors" Leffingwell
