  • I was looking at my friends' newly acquired early s/n *9N11xx* and it had the later battery access door (hinged) and the gas tank had the filler neck off to the side. Obviously it was replaced at some point. Other than the tank, later hood and grille, all other original items are there including a -20/+20 AMP gage with chrome bezel. Here's a photo of my early 9N gas tank with the filler neck set in the middle of the tank end. When did the gas tank filler neck position change? Was it when they went to the hinged door?

  • This is not authoritative because I know nothing of the tractor's history before I got it, but I had 9N47611 with center fill gas tank. I'm not even sure the s/n on that tractor was legit because the font looked smaller than what I'm used to seeing, like maybe someone stamped their own number on it.

  • Tim...I would say you are correct on moving the position of the tank fill.It appears the hinge would have been in the way when trying to fill the tank. don b

  • Pure speculation but could it be when the Kero burner came along, & there were two "humps?
