  • Question about Ford tractors and implements
  • I am wondering why all of the Ford implements have a tag that says 'Dearborn.' Did Ford own Dearborn Motors or was this who Ford jobbed it out to? Thanks, Larry

  • Derarborn was the distribyutin company for the new Ford 8N and the new line of Dearborn Equipmenty after Henry II fired Harry Ferguosn in 1946. Prior to thta, Ferguosn- Sherman Bros were distribuitors until '42 or so then just Ferguosn

  • Dearborn was a company that made implements for Ford. You will also find Ferguson and several other brands.

  • Re: Question about Ford tractors and implements
  • Dearborn Motors Corporation, began in January, 1947 as the new distribution company for Ford Motor Company to handle the new 8N tractor, released in July 1947, and all the Dearborn Implements that were built to use with it. Around 1955, Dearborn was absorbed by Ford altogether under Ford Tractor & Implement Co. Dearborn Implement has been out of business for a few decades now and Ford Motor Co. has not built any tractors since the early 90's. There were/are a few businesses called 'Dearborn' -one makes plumbing supplies, one is a meat supplier, to name a few. Ford Motor Company has no affiliation with any of them.

  • Thank you for the information Tim. I'm still not clear if Dearborn actually built any equipment or were they strictly a distributor? thanks, Larry

  • Ford/Dearborn subcontracted most if not all implement manufacture. I know of one line of plows that were made by Budd for Ford when Ferguson was handling distribution. I believe that many Ford balers were made by Woods.

  • Dearborn balers & early Ford balers were built by Long Manufacturing in Tarborro N.C. our Dearborn baler has both tags on it the Dearborn tag with model # & the big tag being built by Long

  • I have the original Dearborn cultivator that my father purchased with the 1951 8N. It has 2 tags: Dearborn and Mfg. by Pittsburg.
