  • Photo #10- See The New Ford Tractors - The line that's GREAT for '58 - Coming Nov 15th!

We have determined that my 1958 851, SN 1002 (the second tractor built after the change from X00 to X01 series), was assembled Sep. 30, 1957. So it appears that Ford started shipping them to dealers in early Oct, 1957 and the dealer was probably supposed to "hide" the new tractors until Nov. 15.

  • PICTURE 7 IS LISTED AS A FORAGER.
IT LOOKS LIKE A CORN PICKER TO ME. MY FATHER-IN-LAW HAD A CORN PICKER THAT GATHERED EAR COR. IT DIDN'T HAVE A BIN ON IT THOUGH. THE CORN WENT UP A SHUT IN ATOWED WAGON.

  • The picture of the truck and the tractor plowing might be testing for wheel slippage also. I went to a modern day tractor show and that is one thing they normally test.

  • I thought corn picker too at first but did not see the row horns on the front. Will look at my manuals to verify...

  • Nice !!

What ya figure is up with pic #4 ?, Some kind of wires or lines going from the tractor to the Dearborn truck? And what's on the right rear wheel that looks like some kind of huge Hub cap and what's with the wires/lines going to the center of that wheel ???

  • I would say the rear wheel device is a center disc turned around? I think they are testing the plow under loads and the coulters are not mounted. I like the hay baler with palm trees in the background. May have been taken at the Ford Testing farm in Georgia.

  • There was a self propelled combine tested but never made it to production too.

  • I think you will find that to be a one row corn picker-sheller.

  • Thanks for the pics. Wonder what went with that 8N cutaway?

  • The 8N is the later model indicated by the script fenders and generator on left side. Cutaways were used at dealers for display to advertise the new models. Look in the background and notice the sign on the wall about the Dearborn Economy Plow and we don't see the plow in the photo but I'd bet the plow is cutaway too.
