  • Well, the OEM MPC's will show parts and wiring setup and the Service Manuals show circuit diagrams. The Essential Manual are a help too -get out your I&T FO-4 Manual. In our HOW-TO's forum, download WIRING PICTOGRAMS by JMOR for every correct way to wire the N's. Wiring is basically the same from 9N-12500 to end of 2N production. Early 9Ns were different. Also, if you did a 12V switch out job, you won't find any OEM wiring because they never had nor needed 12V.

  • Tim, I have a question and it may help the OP when he works on his tractor. I need to install a new wiring harness on my 8N and I am wondering what technique to use to get all the wiring and spark plug wires to fit inside of the wire tube guide on top of the engine? Are there any tricks on managing this part of the job?

  • Well Kim, when I restored my early 8N in 2003, I thought running the wiring harness thru the loom would be the toughest job. It was surprisingly easy and no ensuing problems were encountered. The harness only runs the spark plug wires and the generator bundle which includes the coil wire thru the loom. I bought the OEM-style Dennis Carpenter wiring harness. The early spark plug wires never used boots over the plug connectors. They used copper plug connectors at 90 °. I fed the spark plug wires thru first from the front of loom nearest dash, then fed the generator bundle thru last. Run #4 (the longest) plug wire first, then #3, next #2, then #1. If harness is an aftermarket general purpose type like the TISCO FORD kit, wires are long, can be cut to length, and have no plugs conductors crimped for cap and no boots on cap end so you can feed all plug wires from dash end thru loom, slide the rubber boots on first, and then crimp your conductors on. The TISCO plug wire ends may have rubber booties so if they do slip over plug ends. Go by the OEM 8N Wiring Diagrams for reference.
