  • Chaps,
nice board here, I still found alot of useful informations here. In case: I'm writing a book about the Fordson Dexta and looked for informations on the "N" tractors, because the 8N was taken to design the Dexta.
You may be interested in this old girl I saw on a Vintage Tractor Show in Germany last year. I was pretty fascinated how she still looks after so many years. I'm not an expert on it, can anyone help me identify her. If anyone of you like to see more details, get in touch with me, I have more pictures of her.
    Regards Stefan

  • Thanks to all the gusy out there
  • Guys,
thanks to all of you for the friendly words about my pictures. I agree with all of you, this beautyful tractor has to be as it is. Sandblasting or any other kind of refreshing would rob it's soul. I also agree that machines in the shown shape have more charm than a polished show-tractor.
    Best Regards
    Stefan

  • Hi Stefan. Thank you for posting the great pics of this 2N and of your Dexta. If you are in contact with the owner of the 2N, you can tell him that we have a 1946 dealer parts manual (in English, however) posted in our Manuals section here.

In the Corvette world, this 2N would be referred to as a "survivor", which sets it apart from the owners who want their Vette to look like it just came off the showroom floor vs. the "customizers" (of which I am one) who like to personalize their Vettes in one oway or another. Survivors are ones that are original but do not look brand new. This one is awesome, and were it mine, I would not touch it other than to keep it maintained.

And, we also have an original ad brochure for the Dexta posted in the same area that may be of interest to you.

    Welcome to the NTC..........Ed

  • I'm with Jim, I wouldn't have the heart to touch it. What a well preserved tractor & plow.

  • I'd like to see any other photos you have. Just from this photo, I'd say it's a 2N (oval radius rods) probably from 1946 or '47. I can't see Ford exporting any tractors to Germany before that time due to the war. It appears to have its original tires and does not look like it has been abused at all over its life. Remarkable condition!

  • All the missing pictures
  • Chaps,
just put all the pictures on my website, so you can have a closer look at the old girl. The owner came over from the Netherlands especially for the show. I never saw a "N" located in Germany. The tractor is certainly not imported in the past, it's a fresh-imported from the USA.

  • Stefan,
Thank You for the pictures of that beautiful 2N. I really enjoyed seeing such a fine original. I also enjoyed seeing your pictures of the great job you're doing on your Dexta. You and your brother have been tackling some nasty problems and doing a great job of getting them resolved. I really would like to see that project when it's completed.
    Thanks, Lee

  • A completely restored tractor has a beauty all its own, but I think if I owned that 2N I would not touch it. There's just something about a well preserved original that is impossible to duplicate. Thanks for the photos!

Believe it or not, I think I can almost see part of the serial number in one of your photos. I think I see (star)9N233...

I can't see the rest, but I'd be willing to guess from what I do see that it's a 1946 2N.

  • The date-code cast into the bell housing looks like "I46".

  • Stefan,

What I see is in my opinion imported to Germany from the USA.
    1. Lighting is compleet orginal USA.
    2. It is a petrol burner, Kersine version al exported to the Great Brittian.
The plow is is a model 10-14. The jointers are not orginal. Coulter missing.

In Holland we have most 8NAN of 1948 and 1949. The 2N and Jubilee (NAB) models are rare.
