  • When did starter button move
  • I have one source that says 9N's started production with the starter button on the dash. Have another that says it was a foot starter till 9N80,770 when it moved to dash. My 9N35,981 has the foot starter. I think they started with the foot till 80,770 then moved to the dash, correct?

    Anyone have anything else?

  • Dan.....the starter button was moved from the dash to the tranny at serial number 12500.The in dash starter button was part number 9n11450-A.The tranny mounted starter button was part number 9n11450-B.They are made diff and are not interchangeable. don b

  • Okay that makes sense to me know. So do I have this right upto 12,500 the starter button was on the dash after is foot starter, then at 80,770 the starter moved back to the dash? The saftey intlock switch was added at 12,500 also?

Thank you guys this is helping a lot.

  • At 80,770 the dash was made from stamped steel instead of cast allum. or cast iron but still used the lower safety starter button.

  • Scott and all.....I think the 9n3512-B was stamped steel dash for replacement on the 9n3551-A. It had provisions for the in dash starter button as well. don b

  • Last year I faxed you service bulletin #80 dated 9/29/42 that said the dash and steering housings to use if the old one piece needs replaced. If replacing 9N3551A cast upper steering housing and dash assy. (button on dash)use 9N3512B steel panel, 9N3551E upper housing, 9N10732 tray, 9N10721 cover, 9N10722 clamp, 2-9N10728B bars. If replacing 9N3551C cast upper steering housing and dash assy. (button by shifter) use 9N3512A steel panel, 9N3551D upper housing and the same tray and hold down parts above.

  • Yes you did Scott. All I was trying to get across is that the 3512-B had the hole in the top left for the early starter button, according to the prints. don b

  • Dan......don't forget to add to your list about the moving of the igntion swx. from the dash to the steering column.I think you also need to include the diff dash and tranny cover changes that were made. don b

  • I have seen pics of VERY early 9n tractors (around serial number 16 or so) that shows a starter button on the dash, but lower. It was below and to the left of the ammeter guage. I have seen serial number 316 and it was in the dash up towards the upper left hand side like you see so many 1939 models have. My serial number 5429 also has the starter button on the upper left dash location.

  • I have a 40 9n ser 24xxx that has the hole for the dash mounted starter but also the foot interlock starter which is now how it operates. I recently looked at a 40 9n ser 34xxx that used the dash mounted starter button and had the foot starter button but it had been plugged. The messy job led me to believe it was farmerized. So another words I really have no idea. Enjoy
