  • Beautiful day but...
  • Sunny and 50 this afternoon. I went out to do some clean up around the yard and barn. I got the '52 8N and Wagner "jungle gym" loader out of the barn to do some lifting. Things went well, mostly.
I had 3 short chains to lift stuff using the loader bucket with the hooks welded on top. Things went very well until I realized that I lost one chain. Ok, shut off tractor and do a walk back track and find it. Nope. 3 times I walked back around where I had been and did not find it. DANG!
So, go put the tractor back in the barn. HA! Solenoid "click", "click". DANG!
Get tools and the battery post and cable cleaner wire brush. Because the loader frame crosses above the battery door, you have to hold door up to work. Go get a bungy.
I spent more time cleaning all the connections and getting the tractor back in the barn than I did doing the little clean up jobs. Whew.
My son stopped by after work later and we both walked back around where I had been to look for the chain. Chain monster devoured it!
Still, nice to be outside doing something. How was your day?

  • Hook up that chain locator on the back of the tractor and give it a whirl.
    Some folks call it a brush hog. . . . .

  • LOL Got one of those and a 6' Woods finish mower. The thought did cross my mind.

  • It also helps to paint you're chains a bright color.

  • Good idea. Should I go around the yard with some yellow paint? grin

  • Know anyone close by with a metal detector? I've been out in hay fields looking for special bolts and misc. metal pieces a couple times. A chain down in the dirt should be easy to locate with a detector

  • May have to go that route. I was working primarily in the yard and thought it would stand out....or jump up and bite me. LOL
