  • No More Eephus Pitch
  • As if we needed more reasons to dislike the way Major League Baseball is set up an played today, the league announced they have did away with the 4-pitch intentional walk in lieu of a simple managers' nod to the umpire to award the batter first base. WRONG! The game needs to be sped up no doubt, but not like this. We will never see the infamous Eephus pitch again. Stupid. They also changed the replay rule to limit to 2 minutes. Why? Replay has ruined football, is ruining hockey, and now baseball as well. They should have two sets of stats then -an old time when the games were played based on human judgments, and now with reversals due to TV replays. Better yet do away altogether and that will speed up the games as well. Bad enough they have to replay EVERY G-DAM football play 3/4 times as it is. To speed up baseball, they need to make it so the batter cannot call time to step out of the box. Once set, he is in there for his full at bat. Total BS...

  • My Father, who passed away some 40 years ago made the same observation about baseball. His idea was to apply a "shot clock" to the pitcher and batter. Along with Tim's observation about the batter and the batter box, I get tired of the pitcher adjusting his had and scratching almost every part of his anatomy. If he were limited in how much time he had to get the pitch off and likewise a batter had a limit on his time to be ready for a pitch it would move faster, especially if a penalty like a mandatory walk for a pitcher violation and a mandatory strike or out for the batter, things would hasten along more quickly, I think.

    Just my opinion.

  • HiYa Jerry-
That's IT!!! A SHOT CLOCK!!! In my younger days, we'd spend every chance we could down at Tiger Stadium -even saw one World Series Game there in 1984, but have never been to Comerica Park or even Ford Field for that matter. Dad took us to a lions game one Thanksgiving in the h60's at Tiger Stadium and all I remember was it was bitter cold and the smell of beer and hot dogs. Got to take my first pi$$ in those steamy old troughs in the men's rooms. Urine and cigar smoke...wow too much for a 9 year old.

  • One way they could speed it up: Hire a glove maker that could produce gloves that didn't need to be tightened up between every pitch.
