  • Willow Run again
  • The Early Ford V8 foundation is selling DVDs of the Willow Run Airplane plant.
Very interesting and a lot more complete than I have seen on the computer.
Also things that you take for granted such as jigs, cradles and production methods.
    Well worth the money.

  • Having lived my 74 years within 8 miles of Willow Run, there are a lot of tales to be told about the war years and activities since. As we get older it is unfortunate that many of the stories are unknown to many younger people who also have lived here all their lives. Many don't even know the facility existed or that it has been torn down except for the area where the planes exited the hanger doors to the airport apron.
What would be interesting to me and maybe to others is a single book that lists by state and city the facilities that were producing equipment and materials for WW2. It may exist somewhere already, I just have not looked for it.

Here's a sight with the old Fairfax plant when it was putting out WW-2 planes. There's a photo gallery that has some good pictures. I worked at GM back in 1974 and retired 30 years later. I heard so many stories about building planes from the Old guys. Out back was the old Hanger building it was really cool to look at all the wood beams and trusses pinned together. There were so many memories in that plant before they tore it down and built the New GM plant..
