  • After almost 30 years with one insurance company it is time for me to make a change. This is on a city residence, a farm and autos.

    Agent has proposed State Auto

Anyone have any knowledge of, or experience with, them. Good or especially bad.

    Thanks,

    Jack

  • I too had Stare Farm for oven 35 years till about 12 years ago shortly after a hurricane they dumped me and all Floridians with homeowner policies. I never filed a claim in all the years I had them. Cheap shot by State Farm, it really hurt a lot of good customers. Since then my broker finds the best price & coverage and that is where I go, even if it is changed every year.

  • I have a problem in having the home in Des Moines and the farm here in SE Iowa. Since it is a "part time" home a lot of companies will not touch it and almost all are pretty proud of policies on it.

  • We were with the same insurance company for Over 25 years thought they were treating us great until the girls started driving and they socked it to us ,So we started shopping around and bundled everything and increased the coverage and cut the cost in have. Make a couple call and see how good they are treating you.

  • I've been with State Farm for over 30 years and am very happy with them. I know my agent personally and I get great service. I do think their rates are a little high but I'm still happy with them.

  • Just hope nothing happens to your buddy. I too was with SF for years and one hurricane claim for a tree on the house and they covered basically nothing and dropped me like a hot rock. Also the GUARAnTEED for life health insurance policy I bought into and paid on at a premium for 15 years was mysteriously "discontinued" after I broke an ancle on a icy handicap ramp to a parking deck. I only wish I had the money I paid them over the years, I could retire in style like their ceo and all of my agents...

  • Danny,

This is State Auto, not State Farm which I've been looking at. Have about decided I do not want anything to do with them. Several good reviews but they are all a year or more old. All newer reviews stink!

    Thanks,

    Jack

  • If they serve your area, look up and get a quote from AMICA - they not only have the best rates I've ever known in my 72 years, but they truly save me hundreds annually in residential and auto insurance premiums vs. what I'd paid up until I chose them, and they also pay an annual dividend; (mine last year alone was over four hundred bucks)!

We lost a 36' x 18' carport in a late January high wind event and the company had the structure quickly and without any fanfare whatsoever replaced within two weeks!

  • When living in the Quad Cities, mostly Rock Island, I used Preferred Risk out of Des Moines. Never had a complaint about them for the 10 years I was there. Had 2 or 3 claims that were settled quickly and satisfactorily.
