  • Eyes On Design 2017 Show
  • Looking to take Dad someplace special on Father’s Day? Come to the ‘Eyes On Design’ annual car show held on the grounds at the estate of the late, great Edsel & Elenore Ford in Grosse Pointe Shores, MI on Lake St. Clair. This is in honor of Henry Ford’s only son, Edsel and his young protégé/partner E.T. Gregory, who were responsible for many of the Ford designs and styling from the early 30’s thru the early 40’s. This show is the 5th largest in the world and this year the committee decided to showcase tractors as well. They have only displayed tractors once before. I was one of the select few to have been chosen and will be bringing my early 1948 8N Tractor with a Dearborn Cultivator hitched up to show. The 8N model was first produced in July, 1947, with almost 50 new improvements over the previous 2N Model. My 8N was built sometime between September and October, 1947 as the early serial number indicates. I am the second owner and have restored it to all original though it was much original when I bought it. Mr. Jason Grooms also has been selected to display his early 9N with a period correct Ferguson-Sherman plow. So, pack up Dad and head out to Gaukler Point on June 18, see LINK for details. The show is open from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. I have also volunteered to be a Marshall as well so look for me and hope to see you there.

  • Hi Tim,
received your email re trailer and tow ball. Most rental trailers have inertial braking so electronic brake controller not needed. I'd be concerned re trailer tongue weight. Figure the trailer is probably around 2,000 lb and add 3Klb for a total of 5K then about 500lb should rest on tongue ball point. 1-1/4 " receiver may be too small and may not be rated for that without an equalizer hitch. Better go back and rent a tow vehicle that will pull the trailer, U-Haul probably has one, just don't tell them you are pulling a tractor, better a Honda CR-V or other approx 3Klb vehicle.

Don't miss your show because of this!

  • Well, if you and Walt left now, split the gas costs, you'll be here by then... ; > I'd love to see your Ferguson F-40!!! I forgot to say too that Ford 8N champion, Marvin Baumann will also be there with his Four-Trans II. He sold his original one then had so many requests, he built another one. This unique model contains the original 8N transmission, a Sherman auxiliary transmission, an Everett transmission, and a Hupp transmission. He can set it to move so slow you can't really tell with the naked eye so he puts a marker on a front tire so you can visually see it move.

  • Trust me brother that I'd love to meet Marvin in person and also be able "touch & feel" his fine looking iron! Oh and I have to say that since you and I have had such a great rapport over the years but have never actually met, I'd look forward to shaking your hand as well; (though I traded off the '51 8N, I hung on to the tool kit and pouch I bought from you way back when!). If Mr. Dwight Emstromm was able to make it, I'd also like to shake his hand as he was a great help to me in a number of personal phone calls made back when I bought the 8N. Great idea also to finally meet Walt in person!
