  • Spiders in my shop
  • I use glue boards placed in different places close to the sides of my garage man-doors. They really help me keep the spiders down in my shop. I replace the glue boards periodically. They get so full of bugs and spiders that after a while the spiders can walk on top of those caught in the trap. They gross me out when I have to pick up a full trap to dispose of it. Even though I have a number of these traps going most always, I still see spiders racing across the floor. One large spider type usually races right at me. I generally put my size 13 on top of them. I get 4 or 5 of those a week. I tried Home Defense, but it made me sick with a bad headache for days after I sprayed it. I tried it a couple times and the same thing happened both times even with using a mask and opening all doors and windows. Can't handle the pesticides I guess.
So what do you folks do to control the bugs and spiders in your shop? I need to explore a better control. The glue boards get expensive if you have to replace them regularly.

  • I use cheap carb cleaner or brake cleaner, a quick walk thru once a day.
They don't seem to be bothered by different colored webs in my paint room.
Years ago I bought a house with a cellar, the spiders had taken over. I was told to
    use hedge apples.
These along with a lot of vacuuming got rid of most of them over time.

  • That's the main reason we started using cedarcide around the house & shop. Dogs don't care much for the smell of it, but it works.

  • Sorry about the dog Walt. Hope she will be okay.

My mother used to use the foggers. She would close up the place and set one in the middle of the floor. Killed all the bugs sure enough but she ended up with health issues that could have been due to chemicals. Don't need that.

I have heard that peppermint oil works.

Since we have Chickens our spider population has dropped considerably...

  • You might try a product called Cedarcide. They have several products we've had good results from. Kind of pricey, but it goes a pretty long way. We use the granules around the perimeter of the house as a barrier. I also keep the cedar oil. It's water soluble to use as a spray at various concentrations.

As you can imagine, it has a very strong cedar odor. Some folks don't like it.
