  • Check with a local nursery, Lowe's or Home Depot, as most carry weed screens that can be rolled out before you put in the base layer of sand/soil/rock, etc.. Did that here long ago and no vegetation has grown up between the pavers to date.

  • when I changed the tires on my 9N I kept the calcium chloride that was in them. Best weed killer I've ever used. Have to go back and reapply every 5 years or so but I have no weeds in my driveway and sidewalks.

  • dig out your area 6 inches larger than you want your patio in the are of 8-10 inches deep. use 3/4" process in 2" lifts compact each lift, you was to have about 6" base like that. one inch of bedding sand and then your pavers. to reduce the chance of weeds use a polymer sand. after you install the pavers sweep the poly sand over them, sweep off the extra, blow off the dust with a low speed leaf blower and soak it with a nice mist (you don't want to have standing water) let her dry apply patio furniture sit back have a beer and enjoy your patio.

  • I installed pavers on a sand base. ...Ants carried the sand up, individual pavers sank while others raised. ...Weeds grew between the pavers.

I removed all those pavers, poured a concrete slab, and re-laid the pavers on top. ....Filled joints with polymer sand. ...Weeds still grow between pavers.

Good luck on keeping weeds out !!

  • The wife and I dug out the grass where we put our "small" patio and then put a thick sheet of plastic cover on then placed the pavers.Where we are at in N.C. not really much freezing so I'm not too concerned with water that might collect under the pavers and freeze thus breaking and cracking.I did put sand on the plastic to help level so some weeds do make their way between the sides but a little Roundup (24D)keeps this at bay.
