  • Lookin like a real red neck now.
  • My 2004 ford F250 only has 112000 miles on it,6.0 diesel and looks like it only has half that, because I keep after any thing that goes wrong.Well it did what all Ford pickups do, the bed cross members rusted out and collapsed.I ordered new cross members and as I'm waiting for them to come in I pulled the bed off the pick up and since I still need it to get around I rigged up a light bar with brake, tail, stop, turn and back up lights and put it across the rear of the frame. Man does it ever look like a real red neck contraption now. My wife posted pictures on face book and it blew up with comments. I was called every thing from a genius to an idiot,Oh well.People will just have to look the other way it they don't like it cause it's gonna be that way for a while. As soon as I get the new cross members in I'm taking the bed to a body shop to have some minor scratches and rust over a wheel well taken care of. then when the bed is done I'm going to let the body shop go over the rest of the truck and fix parking lot dents and dings, then put it all back togather. Also while the bed is off I'm going to wire wheel and brush the frame and every thing I can get too and give everything a good coat of paint. It should be good for a few more years after I do all that. God Bless, Beth and Allen.

  • What caused your bed to rust out, road salt?

  • Not really road salt, more of a bad design by Ford.they are a square open box tube that crap just lays in and not made of very good steel and not sprayed with any kind of protectant.I now see a lot of fords with that problem now that I know about it.When I get the new ones welded in I'm going to see what I can do to prevent that from ever happening again. My wife took pictures of them. If I could figure out how to post them I would to show what I'm talking about. Other than a little rust over the right rear wheel well(another bad design)there isn't hardly a mark on the truck except parking lot dings. The truck is really a very strong running truck so I hope to keep it going for several more years.God Bless, Beth and Allen.

  • That sounds like a good project. Yes the pickup's do look different without a bed covering the frame. Right now my 79 looks that way while I'm doing a few things before installing a solid Arizona bed. Cross members on the original bed were pretty weak along with a few areas missing metal. Are you still delivering fuel?

  • Yes, still delivering fuel, Butane season is getting ready to start. When it gets going I will probably go back to 5 days a week instead of 4.That is one reason I'm trying to get my p/u done now because even on 4 days a week I put in almost 50 hours a week, and the first day off I don't feel like doing much except holding down my recliner.God Bless, Beth and Allen.
