  • Have you had your Laugh Today?
  • I think I'm laid up for awhile now.Picture this,,,an 80yr. old up a ladder pruning limbs when the ladder decides to move.I'm about 16ft. head high up this tree and I begin to do ackrobatics.I feel in a sitting position forcing my legs under me.I have no broke bones but 2 big swollen knees and can't walk (the pain). As I lay on the ground thinking what a nut I am I did Pray to HIM and give thanks for keeping me.My kids and the wife have laid the law down to me.NO more climbing !!!! I think this is great advice.

  • No laughs here...
  • Glad you were not more seriously hurt or worse.
One of our church friends is no longer with us from just cleaning the gutters on his house and he was just in his late 60's.
Ladders are nothing to laugh at, lots of folks get hurt. So be careful.
I have a porch with a low roof that leads up to the second floor high roof.
I set a latter from low roof to high roof many many times with no problem. When the roofers were here putting on a new roof, I was installing new attic fans. Set the ladder in the same place as always, but it was just on the new felt and not the roofing. Felt tore and ladder kicked out right as I got to the top. What a ride that was. Ruined the ladder and almost ruined me too.
    So be careful out there.

  • Hopefully you have a full recovery. As was said, go to the doctor to verify.
You've got me by 6 years and I swore off of much climbing, limiting to a couple of steps and using both hands, carrying nothing. Steps without hand rails are scary. Even on flat ground I have to be careful as my balance is not the greatest due to chemo neuropathy. I'm only 5'8" but the ground still looks a long ways down just looking at my feet. LOL

  • It's so much cheaper to hire tree trimmers my friend. I'm seven years younger than you are and I climbed ladders for a living for most of my life as a municipal fireman, but after my retirement at 65, I said never again (except of course for light step ladder work around the place) would I climb an extension ladder. At this age, one broken hip alone could be a "grave" mistake! Happy you weren't hurt any worse than what you were and hopefully, you'll recover from that pain soon - however, if you haven't been checked by a professional yet, I'd recommend doing that just in case, the sooner the better!

  • You're a blessed man. Several years ago I was tearing down a building and trying to save as much lumber as I could. I was up on the floor of the attic, having taken down the roof rafters, they were 16' long 2x6's. I was walking them over to the edge and throwing them down. I had thrown several down and was quite proud of myself, wnen I threw the next one down there was a nail sticking out that I had missed, the nail caught in my coveralls and the 2x6 took me with it.All I could think of this is going to hurt (and leave a mark). I was about 12 feet off the ground, as I went over I was able to get my legs tucked up under me I landed on my feet tucked up and rolled forward 360 degrees and rolled right back up on my feet,I couldn't believe it, no cut bruises or broken bones. My neighbor was out in his yard and saw the whole thing, it scared him so bad he couldn't move, but when I came walking around the building to where he could see me was priceless, he was so shocked you would have thought he had seen the second coming of Jesus,Which I firmly believe was with me that time.God Bless, Beth and Allen.
