  • Ford B-24 Liberator
  • An e-mail that I received today. Many of these pictures I have never seen before. I lived less than a mile as the crow flies from Willow Run and the bomber plant from 1943 to 1950.

  • There appears "some" of these planes (war machines)were built of aluminume skin and others ?? .Does anyone know the reason? Golly what beautiful war machines these were.

  • The silver is hard to see in the air and the green is hard to see on the ground. Depends on where they wanted to hide. But then I could be wrong, I was a machine gunner not a pilot.

  • You are correct.
Different colors for europe and japan too.
Some had green on top and light blue bellies.
Night run planes were painted all black.
Yet the planes are so loud you could gear them for miles...

  • Different colors for different locations. All same material.
Dad said the silver models were later in the war. The early ones were various shades of green.

  • John- very cool vintage photos of the Willow Run Plant and the B-24. I moved this over to our HISTORY forum too. Those buildings and water towers look oh so familiar. Thanks.
