  • Furnace update
  • Crew showed up bright and early yesterday for the new furnace install.

The old one didn't put up much of a fight, only took them 3 hours to get it apart and out of the basement.

    Have to remember the new furnace takes a 16" x 25" x 5" filter

96% efficient runs on natural gas. Has a dc blower motor. Came with paper work for a rebate from the gas company and the electric company. Should be using a lot less gas and electric now and have cleaner air.

While they were swapping the furnace out I had a space heater running in the living room while I drank beer and watched TV. "Somebody" blew the breaker. When they reset the breaker my TV sparked and died. So now I have a new furnace and a new TV. Is being retired supposed to be this much fun?

  • Retirement is fun...I think. Been retired since 2007. Busier than a dog chasing its tale. We are in the process of two land transactions, planning some remodeling and possible addition on the house since my wife fell, and trying to convince wife she needs a new car (then I can take the old one and save money not buying diesel fuel until I need it) Meantime, I'm possibly looking at another house (shh, don't tell my wife). Granddaughter is paying through the nose for college dorm rent. I think we can help if she is willing to do a little work as a property manager and some minor maintenance. Maybe she would not be so deep in debt when she graduates. Yup, fun!

  • Wuz listening to a US classic rock station during my hellish drive yesterday.
Furnace adds offering large rebates, low financing, zero payments till spring and so on. Did not catch the name of the units.

  • Gees,,with that new "purty" equipment in your basement you might want to put the new TV and lounge chair in there.

  • Dan, if the old squirrel cage blower and motor was still working good, I hope you kept it; (I kept mine when the furnace was changed out). Those units are handier'n a button on a shirt in the shop when mounted on something like a flat furniture dolly, or a stout vertical pole, or even hung from the ceiling!

Happy to hear you'll be able to keep the house comfortably warm this coming winter!

  • We had our heat pump replaced with a 95% Trane propane furnace. Got a $300.00 rebate from MFA.

  • Like the mfg. says in their ads Mark, "It's hard to beat a Trane"! Had one installed here in this home (as well as an outside A/C unit) sometime back and have been very pleased with it.

  • Forgot already how much the rebates totaled, maybe $350. Said I should get my checks in the mail in 6-8 weeks.
