  • Has anyone else noticed that back when we just had land lines, not a whole lot of bogus calls were being made? It seems that since the advent of cell phones, the scamming has become part of cell phone usage. I don't recall getting many, if any, scamming/phishing calls when I had my land line. I had an answering machine and if no message was left, I didn't waste time calling back if legit. The "NO CALL" list is a farce too. Everyone I know who signed on has still received bogus calls. We sure do need legislation/protection and the phone companies and the legislatures need to get on a resolution ASAP. I see many web sites to report scammers but don't think they take it any further.

  • Just got a call very early this morning from the so called M/S technical dept. He asked me to please start my computer right away. Faked a local calling number too. Guess Y'all know about what I said to the guy. Used to get the IRS calls repeatedly too. Also the you have won the big prize you signed up for scam. I have received many e-mails and calls from the real Microsoft folks in regards to my troublesome a Surface Pro. I do know they call and when they do they are very clear about the purpose of the call. I also know that even though the tech that calls will work with you to fix the unit but the required fixes seldom last. I have made 3 1-1/2 hr trips to the nearest Microsoft store where I normally get good service. Just made the trip last Tues and they replaced my Surface Pro with a new one. Don't reply to phone scanners, only take calls from clearly identified MS people and only if you initiated the contact. Scammers can't be caught as they are able to post fake calling numbers and they are untraceable.

  • Shirley and I are both registered on the do not call list. Which makes it illegal. But that usually does not stop crooks. When I had a securities license, it was against the ethics rules to make cold calls. So it bugged me that I could not call, but these idiots can.
My foul language and sarcasm, alerted Shirley to the fact I go a scammer call. She sometimes said I should not be so mean. Tee hee.

  • IRS
  • I just received my "LAST WARNING" that the IRS was going to sue if I didn't call back on the number she gave me. Too bad that was not really the last time they would call.

  • Re: IRS
  • Yep, me too. I get at least one call per week from these prepuces. I never answer a call if I don't recognize the number and/or it comes up on my display as already listed in my directory. I let it go to VM and listen and delete it later. The big clue on this one, as if we needed another clue, is they say the 'cops will be coming to arrest me'. They don't say 'police' or 'law enforcement'. I highly agree we need some protection from these scammers.

  • A friend got a call from a woman offering a deal on septic tank pumping. He said I dont have a septic tank.I have a funnel and hose that runs to the out house .She said what do you do when you have to number 2.He said I run outside and back up to a tree and let it rip.She said I dont care to talk you any more.Willie lived in NH years ago and went to the out house. He had a few beers,He lit his pipe with wooden match and dropped the burning match down the hole, paper caught fire and flames burned butt.He ran to the neighbors to call the Fire Dept. When the truck got there the out house was totally involved. The Firemen were laughing. They showed up the day with lumber and shingles, dug a new hole and built a new 2 holer for Willie.Wille passed on in September.I miss him.
