  • HiYa Jon!
WOW, it's been a while since I've seen your name here. Still have your 8N? I believe Jacobson built lawn tractors/riding mowers for FORD. Interesting they built these with 172 and 192 motors too. That's a lot of ponies to just mow grass with. We can start a thread, maybe in the HISTORY forum or continue the existing one on the WORTHINGTON/FORD models, or just start a new forum on Ford related off brand/models.

  • Hey Tim! Happy New Year! Yes it has been a while, though I've popped in a couple of times for help. Had a couple of its been busy. Jacobsen bought Worthington in the 40's so it would make sense to extend the Worthington/Ford forum to Worthington/Jacobsen/Ford probably. These G-10 models came from the Worthington G series tractors. They do have a lot of hp for mowing grass but you have to remember they primarily pulled gang mowers between 8 and 18 foot wide. I still have the 8N - the workhorse of the family currently saddled with the Dearborn snowplow and resting quietly ( and warmly) in the garage. Looking like she'll be in battle again on Thursday.... Good to hear from you! Jon

  • Here's my G10. It's outside under a snow/ice filled tarp so I ain't going out to get numbers. I can tell you it's a later one with a 192 engine. It also has 3pt and pto.
I bought it off a guy, who's wife was glad to see it go, he started the tractor while standing along side of it, in gear, and the dauls ran up his leg and broke it in 3 spots. lucky he didn't get killed. He still walks with a limp.

  • I grew up driving one of these - probably a 1969 model. It had the 172 engine. My dad bought it new from Jacobsen. He would let me start it in gear and he would walk next to the tractor and tell me when to shut it off. I think I was 5.
I know Jacobsen was sued by the family of a man who was killed while starting his tractor in gear, standing in front of the wheels. My current G-10 is a 1975 model and it has a safety switch so it cant be started in gear.

  • 1Guess I am not old enough to remember the G-10 we had Ford and John Deere tractors since I was a kid (1952 seems like yesterday). I was so happy when Ford came out with the two stage clutch tractors.

  • Hi Larry - G-10 was a Jacobsen golf tractor using Ford power, was not a Ford tractor.

  • Thanks Jon I watch the N club daily but had to move up from n's to a newer tractor due to age and health. Got a new Mahindra tractor and loader last summer to help out on the farm. Kinda like"n the hydraulics and POWER Steering . The loader sure saves a lot of back work. my old 860 did not have many luxuries. Some day will have to get a N calendar.
