  • My Fairbanks Moriss engine
  • I have had this engine for a few years and thought I would pretty it up.
It runs good but could use new rings.
I fabricated the cart from miscellaneous parts etc. that I had.
The front (small) wheels I dug up out of the ground behind the barn.
The large wheels I bought from the Amish.
The drill motor is a electric starter I made up for it.

  • Actually, I do not believe this can be called a hit and miss. It fires on every stroke.

  • My buddy went a step father. He hooked it to a drive axle on the rear wheels and walked behind it His is a JD 1 1/2 HP.
A simpler hook up would be an intermediade belt step down and the clutch a belt tightner.
One of the thigh people forget, on most hit and miss Horizonital is that the piston, rings and sleeve wear most on the bottom, and if not bored and assembled wrong, they are worse after assembly.
I helped a different buddy try to get an Oregon drag saw, 2 cycle to run. He had disassembled and reassembled. He could sguit oil in the spark plug hole, and get it to run a couple of seconds, then quit. Squiriting the oil in helped the intake and compression for 2 seconds. Farmall F series had oil a gas vales, to cyclinders, to help start a cold engine, or run on distillate.
My buddy also has a engine like yours

  • How about a demonstration? Always fun to see projects and ideas work.
