  • Confinement sucks
  • Dermatologist has me restricted for a couple of days. I had a procedure yesterday called Photodynamic Therapy for treatment to destroy precancerous cells in the skin on my forehead and scalp. I have to go back for another session on March 19th.
For 2 days after each treatment, I'm confined in the house. I can go out only after dark (unless I wrap my head in a towel). Hmmmm, maybe a turban? LOL
Follow-up is SPF 30 sunscreen everyday for the rest of my life.
BTW, I was told that the FDA is in the process of reviewing SPF ratings and that anything listed higher than 30 is basically a marketing ploy.
Folks, protect your skin and annually check with a dermatologist as part of your health care.
ps Use the sunscreen...and help keep age wrinkles at bay.

  • Could be worse
  • I've done that blue u-ray treatment for the previous three years. This year, my dermatologist recommended Efudex cream. You put it on every day for a month. Same deal with not going outside. I've been going batsh!t crazy this month! Thank God we've had a lot of rainy and cloudy days, but I've still been house-locked far more than I can stand. I'm a free man as of tomorrow, thank God.

I will say that this chemo cream has worked much more effectively that the blue light treatments did. My face looks like a 15 year old's right before his first prom. The good news, at least according to my doc is that my face will be as smooth as a baby's butt after this crap heals up. Just what I always wanted, right????

  • I have met Mr. Gooding in person and believe me when I say there ain't enough of that cream on this planet to make his face look like a 15 year old !!!!

  • LOL.....I was referring to a 15 year old with a serious acne problem - would always break out before the big prom.

This cream finds pre-cancerous cells that have not made it to the surface of your skin and raises them to that level and kills them. It's a proactive skin cancer treatment that nukes the cells before they can potentially become deadly.

Being a basic white boy growing up before anyone ever heard of sun screen and being outdoors all the time is making me pay the price at this point in my life.

  • Little younger than you (almost 60)Flo has been on my a$$ to use sun screen because I work out side, I've always been a hat man so I think that's a big help.
Flo works on the cancer floor at Upstate hospital, she's a Oncology nurse deals with all kinds of cancers, I don't know how she does it.
You and John hang in there, keep that head of yours healthy !

  • Yes, Sir! I got out today WITH sunscreen. I always wear a baseball cap but that is not enough. Dermatologist told me about cutting off tops of ears that were beyond saving. I saw a person who suffered that few months ago. Ugh!

  • Re: Could be worse
  • Ihe tops of my ears sunburned a lot over the years.Dont wear baseball caps any more.Wore a straw hat in summer.A viet nam boonie hat is best.Chin string keeps it from blowing off on the boat.I have a few western straw hats for summer wear but wind takesT them off a lot.Boonie hat is best just looks goofy. They come in many colors. Some sun screens have fake spf ratings. There was some photos of a truck driver who had the left side of his face all messed up from the sun on the internet.

  • I am printing your comment for a reference for my next visit. Today was day one. One L-O-N-G day. My wife was so upset with me inside she went shopping in the rain that we got before the snow started.
I did go out about 6:30pm and squeezed my truck into the garage. 5+ inches of new snow since this morning. About 2 more expected.
BTW, Ed, hopefully your smile does not resemble between the cheeks of that baby. LOL
    Sorry, could not resist.
