  • Has any one raised goats and had a problem with one being excessive dominative? My wife raised an orphaned baby goat and now he is 4 months old. Someone told here he needed company because they are very social animals. So she and my older daughter went and got a female 3 month female goat. No the male goat is bulling her all the time. I am afraid since he is a little bigger he might hurt her. We have not had a goat o the far for 25 years since one of my daughters brought one home from a friends house and an hour later it was on my oldest daughter and her husband's new truck roof and walking up and down on the hood. the next hour it was sent back where it came from and no goats in between then. Not sure if banding him might calm down the bigger one who thinks he is in charge of the goat pen or just get rid of him. Any Ideas?

  • I would not keep them together. He is old enough to breed and she is not. She should be "at least" six months old before breeding. If you just want pets I would band him or better yet, sell him and get another doe. If you want to breed them I would keep them apart until fall and then breed them. Then I would separate them. This is only "my" opinion but I had goats for many years and my son still does. I never kept the buck with the does until breeding time.

  • Nuthin stinks like a buck goat.Does love the smell but you will gag on it.Get rid of the buck.Shepherds castrate ram sheep early on by biting the rams testicles off.A knife causes excessive bleeding. So chomp em off a an early age or suffer the stink.I had a doe named Minnie, she loved the buck stink. It will gag a maggot. The buck pees on his chin whiskers and then rubs it on the doe.Only thing that smells worse is a skunk.

  • Agree, bucks really stink. Really bad when breeding, not so much the rest of the year. I had one that was very bad all year and one that wasn't bad all year. They vary a lot but they all stink. An old goat man once told me that if a buck doesn't stink he's sterile. I believe him because I had one and none of the does got bred on their first cycle. I got a stinky one and bred them all on second cycle. Best way to "cut" them is to band them, no blood,no mess. Should be done young, I agree with 36, get rid of yours unless you are going to breed. Actually, it doesn't pay to keep a buck for one or two does, you can borrow or rent one a lot cheaper. JMHO

  • Billy Goats/Bucks are unpleasant as it gets. We had goats years ago and you need to keep the Buck in his own pen.
