  • Pulled out a couple of rifles to do a little target shooting last weekend. No paper, but some 8" steel targets. I've had the steel plates for a few years, mostly for pistol at short range(10-30 yds)but also for rifle at 50-90 yds. I guess up to now I've shot them with .22, .38, 357mag, .223, & 5.56.......all without a single dimple.

1st time I've seen any damage on the plates. Can't remember hitting them w/ 30-30 or 300blk before, so one or the other must hit too hard for AR500....or, the plates aren't as advertised.

  • You need to move out to 100 yards if you want to use a .30 caliber on AR500 steel. I have .357mag loads that will punish AR500 steel at 50 yards. It's not as tough as people would like to think it is.

  • How thick? I shot through 1/2 inch mild steel with BTSP Speer bullets in 30.06

  • the AR500 targets are 8"x3/8"....I wouldn't mind having a few mild steel targets for pistols. Good excuse to get a plasma cutter :)

  • No, I was shooting core-lokt or HP out of the 30-30, & the 300blk were all Magtech FMJ.
