  • Flip-Flop?
  • Someone posted on the other site that PhotoBucket is now under new ownership and has dumped the $400 per year account so pictures should now be showing up again...

  • Not quite. Photobucket has a new CEO; they are not "under new ownership". And they did indeed drop their $400 annual price-in favor of a monthly subscription. According to their press release, the new prices start at $1.99 per month for 10 gigabytes of images stored and rise to $3.99 monthly for 20 gigabytes and $8.99 for two terabytes of storage. All the plans enable third-party hosting for a $2.49 monthly add-on price.

In other words, you still have to pay for the service if you want to use it to host photos on third party sites. After all, bandwidth isn't free-to expect them to simply give away their service is asinine.

  • Wonder why hotlinking is working on free accounts right now?

  • I don't know where the info came from as their web site has nothing posted, and I never received any email notice either, but from what I read, they are offering free service right now for a limited time, in hopes of getting their old clientele back. The fee was posted as being about $20 per year but again I still don't see anything posted on their web site about this. I started going to my old posts here in MANUALS and such to download the documents I had posted in years past. Since they dumped the 'download album' feature months ago, this makes it easier to retrieve those old pictures and scans. I won't dump my PB account and haven't decided if I'll pay anything til I get more info. Certainly not going to pay $400 per year -that is what is asinine. They say they've been around since 2003 and pioneered 3dr party sharing. OK, so was their intent basically a 'bait and switch' op? Lure customers in with free unlimited accounts, then later cease all the sharing until they pony up the $$$??? I switched to IMGUR and they are still free as of today.

  • Not my problem nor do I care. I really don't believe there were any takers on that $400 per year deal, and if so, well, like PT Barnum once said. "...there's a sucker born every minute...". The lack of takers was most likely the reason company was sold. Greed always gets in the way of prosperity.
