  • When I passed 30(near 30 years ago)I realized all my best friends were much older than I. It was always such a blessing having access to all that experience & wisdom over the years, but now they're all gone.

    I miss'em every week.

  • Checking the paper from the local big city. In the deceased page. 4 older than me, and 4 younger than me.

  • Not so for me. They've all long gone! My remaining sibling turns 90 Saturday. Oldest sister was just short of 102.

Best friend now is about 30 - 35 years younger than I.

  • I bought my first house from a 96 yo man.
I lived upstairs for a couple of years and would hang out with him on the front porch a lot.
He told me once that the hardest part about getting so old was everyone he'd ever known was dead. Wife, 2 of his kids, all of his old coworkers, friends, neighbors. He had outlived everyone.
I felt about that for him.

  • I've been pallbearer at my Father In Law's funeral in February; my aunt's funeral in March, and a week later her husband, my uncle, passed away so his funeral was in April. No we just found out that one of my childhood friends, Bert, who was our bass player in our band back when we were teens and young adults, has terminal cancer. It started as prostate cancer, then spread to his lungs, liver, and now bones. He said the docs gave him 3 months and wants us to get the old band back together for one last jam session before he goes. I'm arranging that now. Bert and I are the same age and he said he isn't doing chemo -why bother he added. In late December 2017 my cousin ten years younger than I passed away from cancer so it has been a quite a year so far and it's only half way thru.
