  • Worth thinking about
  • Is this not the reason they tell you not to put plastic in the microwave

    Worth thinking about.

This one is for all to read and then share...might help save a life.

Now this is very interesting! My car's manual says to roll down the windows to let out all the hot air before turning on the A/C. WHY?

No wonder more folks are dying from cancer than ever before. We wonder where this stuff comes from, but here is an example that explains a lot of the cancer-causing incidents.

Many people are in their cars the first thing in the morning, and the last thing at night, 7 days a week. Please do NOT turn on A/C as soon as you enter the car. Open the windows after you enter your car and then after a couple of minutes, turn ON the A/C .

Here's why: According to research, the car's dashboard, seats, A/C ducts, in fact ALL of the plastic objects in your vehicle, emit Benzene, a Cancer causing toxin. A BIG CARCINOGEN. Take the time to observe the smell of heated plastic in your car when you open it, and BEFORE you start it up.

In addition to causing cancer, Benzene poisons your bones, causes anemia and reduces white blood cells. Prolonged exposure can cause Leukemia and increases the risk of some cancers. It can also cause miscarriages in pregnant women.
The "acceptable" Benzene level indoors is: 50 mg per sq.ft.

A car parked indoors, with windows closed, will contain 400-800 mg of Benzene - 8 times the acceptable level.

If parked outdoors in the sun, at a temperature above 60 degrees F, the Benzene level goes up to 2000-4000 mg, 40 times the acceptable level.

People who get into the car, keeping the windows closed, will eventually inhale excessive amounts of the BENZENE toxin.

Benzene is a toxin that affects your kidneys and liver. What's worse, it is extremely difficult for your body to expel this toxic stuff. So friends, please open the windows and doors of your car - give it some time for the interior to air out -(dispel the deadly stuff) - before you enter the vehicle.

Thought: 'When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, please share it with others.'

  • Worth thinking about? Not hardly.

Let me guess-you got that in an email (probably a chain email), correct?
For the most part it's a lot of nonsense. Let's cut it apart and look at the claims vs. reality.

"No wonder more folks are dying from cancer than ever before."
Nope. The age-adjusted cancer death rates in the United States have been decreasing for the past 2 decades

"According to research, the car's dashboard, seats, A/C ducts, in fact ALL of the plastic objects in your vehicle, emit Benzene, a Cancer causing toxin."

Nope. The closest you get is a 2007 German study on “Toxicity of Parked Motor Vehicle Indoor Air” which specifically tested the health effects of emissions from one new and one three-year-old vehicle exposed to “parked in sunshine” conditions found “no apparent health hazard of parked motor vehicle indoor air.”

"My car’s manual says to roll down the windows to let out all the hot air before turning on the A/C. WHY?"
Simple. On a sunny day, the fastest way to cool down a hot car interior is to open the windows. That's the biggest temperature gradient, and the hot air from the car rises and is expelled out the windows. It has nothing to do with any sort of gas build-up.

"Acceptable Benzene level indoors is: 50mg per sq.ft."
Nope. That right there tells you whoever authored the chain email is an idiot. The standard way to report levels of chemicals in air is mass per volume (for example, mg per cubic meter or cubic foot), not mass per area (mg per square foot).

I would highly suggest that when you receive a chain email, you simply press the delete button. Very, very few chain emails are factually correct, and passing on the ones that aren't just make you look foolish.

  • This reminds me of a hydrocarbon emission study required by the EPA on the Chevy Chevette back in the day. Yes. It seems vehicles are only suppose to emit a certain amount of emissions while not being driven. It was found the plastic loving Chevette was making too much stink just sitting there so it was decided the center sections of the seats would be removed and a fabric section sewn in to reduce emissions to an acceptable level.
A few years later I was looking at a Jeep(?) air cleaner and noticed it had a flap inside the air cleaner at the inside that would shut off vapors from the carb while not running. No, I am not talking about the THERMAC with the hot air tube typically found on most every car made.

  • Dean, back in, "I think" the seventies, they discovered that bacon would give you cancer. There was a big to-do about it until someone questioned "how much"? It was determined that eating 250 lbs. daily for 350 years would give you cancer. Don't question what the human brain can screw up. There's no limit.

  • Hi Dave.
How's the heat over there where you live? It's warm enough out here in western Colorado that's for sure. Stay cool Dave.

  • Yes it's been real hot and humid the last two weeks, and nothing but rain before that. Lots of flooding this spring. Cooling off this weekend. 85 now and talking 80 tomorrow...
