  • F150 overheat(no more)
  • I just realized my last post left things hanging with a negative block tests & me scratching my head. Faced with the possibility of going into the engine to change head gaskets when the block tests over a week were all negative I decided to order a Motorcraft T-stat & change it out for the 3rd time.

    No problems since.

  • Glad you got the problem fixed Jeff. I thought you had already replaced the thermostat before?

  • Hopefully, that'll be the last - at least for a long time to come! BTW, y'all need any rain up that way; we've had plenty to date and I'm having thoughts of once again look'n to maybe investing in one of those "hole in the water to throw money in" boats, ha! Have a good week brother.

  • I may have told you this before, but I have an outboard motor that did the same thing. The thermostat went bad and after two new replacements it still set off the overheat alarm at normal speeds. It ran fine wide open with no alarm. When I took the tstat out it ran fine with no alarm. New tstat in and alarm. Second new tstat in and still alarm. With no tstat the motor ran fine but would not heat up to normal operating temp. So l drilled a bypass hole in the tstat and bingo, no more alarm and motor still heated up normally.
Replacement parts vary wildly depending on the manuf. Motocraft parts are good. I have had spark plugs with 100k on them.

  • I love it when it's something simple.
I hate it when it's something simple.
    Glad you found it.
