  • Who Remembers These?
  • Who remembers these? Back in the 60's/70's I recall walking in to any drug store and/or hardware store and right inside was a tube testing machine. Solid State was in its infancy then and soon IC's and SCR's replaced/overtook the vacuum tube in circuits. Still can't beat the screaming sound of a vintage MARSHALL, FENDER, or VOX tube guitar amp though.

  • Yup, just like trying to check a coil or condenser today. You can be pretty sure when one checks bad, but no guarantee if it checks good

  • I repaired TV's when I was in high school to support my ham hobby. I would pull suspect tubes and take them to the drugstore to check them and buy replacements. Later I found a portable B&K tube tester and then ran to Radio Shack to get tubes. Does anybody remember the gold plated pins on the Realistic brand tubes? They had a lifetime warranty.

  • I remember both the drug store tube testers and the Realistic tubes with gold plated pine.

I too, "repaired" many TV sets using the drug store tube testers.
