  • Anybody know
  • Many small machined, lawn mowers. utvs etc have white plastic fuel tanks.
Some have a opaque area that is supposed to work for a gas gauge.
But the new gas is so clear it can't be seen easily.
Off road diesel fuel is colored to indicate for off road use only.
What do they use for coloring the fuel. Where can I get it?

  • I googled how to dye gasoline and several products pop up. Looks like there are powders and liquids. But they may only come in mass quantities.

  • I would think that food coloring was water based and would not mix with gasoline. But I have been wrong before. A little outboard motor oil will turn it blue. I would guess you would need an oil based tint.

  • should take about 4 drops per gallon. Alcohol in the gas will break down that little bit of water, no problems.

  • You are right that the alcohol in the gas would break down the drops of moisture from adding food coloring. But I don't think that the coloring will mix with the gasoline. The drops of food coloring will probably just sink to the bottom of the tank and sit there till the alcohol absorbs or breaks them down. But like I said, I have been wrong before.
