  • Flat belt Fairbanks Morse generator
  • I have an old Fairbanks Morse flat belt generator. It's locked up. Is it worth fixing up? get you get parts? Is there any value in it the way it sits. Thanks, Kirk

  • Fixable, very likely. I once had a pair of Delcos that had laid on the bottom of the Gulf for a year and dockside for two. Looked like junk but took them to the motor shop for an estimate. After two days I called him to see what the prognosis was and he said come pick them up, they are ready. Cleaned, new bearing's, re coated and painted. Every aluminum part of the Detroit 4-71 engines was shot so I replaced them but the original engines were rebuilt later. Motors and generators are built to take it.

  • Though I do not know, I would be surprised if parts are available for it.

That said, a good electric motor shop could probably fix it but it would likely not be cost effective to do so.
