  • My wife and I have been raising three grand kids for almost three years. They are now 10, 8 and 6. I am a college graduate, and something of a math wiz, thanks to Mrs Clark in the 2nd Grade. She had a ruler and wasn't afraid to use it on your butt, knuckles or head. We were terrified of her. But, we memorized the math tables. When I started helping the 10 year old I was stymied by the methods used to teach math and asked for a conference with the math teacher. She gave me the best advise I was ever given. She said, "At the end of the day, 2 plus 2 is still 4, and I don't care how you get there. The answer is always the same. My 10 old has memorized the math tables just like I did, but without the physical punishment. Tony

  • I remember my Father teaching me math with a box of .69 caliber lead balls. I made it through 2 years of algebra with a pen and paper and maintained a 4.0. Bet this new math is a lot different. I still have that box of balls and the pistol he made that fires them.
